Quarter 3 Recap from our Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown

Dear Klein ISD Families and Community,

Our Quarter 3 Recap continues to show how we have so much to be proud of in Klein ISD! Our students and educators are showcasing our tradition of excellence with their successes every single day.

Triple A Success
I continue to be inspired by the Triple-A achievements of our students in Academics, the Arts, and Athletics. We have the best teachers and staff supporting our students outstanding achievements, and I am forever grateful for the people in our Klein Family.

Academics

  • I had the privilege of attending each of our high school’s Top 10% Honor Grad ceremonies, where we celebrated the academic excellence of these high-achieving scholars.
  • Fox Elementary has become the only school in the state to be named a Texas T-STEM Certified Campus, giving students opportunities to engage in even more innovative learning experiences!
  • We wrapped up our 55th Annual FFA Klein ISD Project and Livestock Show with nearly 500 students who showcased over 1,000 projects. This year, the outstanding event broke records by raising over $727,000 in total sales for scholarships and future student projects.

Arts

  • Klein ISD is also represented by 20 Texas All-State Musicians, which is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive
  • Student musicians from all five high schools were selected by the Texas Music Educators Association from over 70,000 students to perform in exclusive All-State Ensembles.
  • Klein Oak and Klein Collins demonstrated their talents at the UIL State Mariachi Competition, with Klein Collins receiving top ratings from the judges, a first in the program’s history.

Athletics

  • Klein High’s Isaac Sheeren and Klein Oak’s Rylee Ferranti were crowned State Wrestling Champions in their respective weight classes for two years in a row
  • Klein Cain Football Team has been recognized as the only 6A State Winner of the prestigious 2023-24 National High School Academic Excellence Award from the National Football Foundation
    • To be eligible for this recognition, the team must have a minimum team GPA of 3.0, superior academic performance, and a successful football season.
    • Additionally, Abhinav Potluri has been honored as the Touchdown Club of Houston’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for his performance on the field and in the classroom.

Safety and Security
Safety and security remain a top priority in Klein ISD, and as I’ve said many times before, I’m so grateful for our Klein Police Department—the first established school district police department in Texas. To further enhance safety and security, KPD has begun a comprehensive process of hiring Level 3 armed security guards to protect our students and staff. We continue to enhance all of our schools with safety measures from structural improvements to physical security to ensure all our students and staff feel safe and are a part of a safe and disciplined environment.

Employee Satisfaction Survey
We love our Klein Family and are so grateful to have the absolute best people working in our school district! Recently, we invited employees to take the Klein ISD Staff Engagement Survey which asked general questions to gather their feedback about their experience as members of the Klein Family. To date, over 3,000 employees have completed the survey so far, and I’m so proud that Klein ISD received straight A’s from our employees in several key areas. These include more than 9 out of 10 staff members saying that they:

  • plan to return to work next year
  • understand and believe in our shared vision
  • agree their campus or department works together to achieve our shared vision
  • receive information they need about important information in the district
  • agree that campus leaders are highly visible on campus
  • agree that Klein ISD Leadership lives by the values of our district
  • agree that their immediate supervisor cares about them

Bond 2022 Update
I can’t say thank you enough to our community for your support of the 2022 Bond. To celebrate the bond project progress taking place in the district, our locally elected Board of Trustees recently participated in celebrations at Klein Oak, Hildebrandt and Northampton to commemorate these newly modernized facilities that will benefit our students and staff. We continue to enhance our schools that are 50 years or older, and focus on the growth and increasing capacity of our secondary schools.

Quarter 4 Starts Monday, March 18
We’ll be heading into our final grading quarter of the 2023-2024 school year when we return from Spring Break on Monday, March 18. We have so many great things ahead and will be finishing the year strong. Thank you for your continuing partnership and support—together, we are making Klein, TX a special place to call home.
